Power of the Pen
Power of the Pen is a writing competition in which students are given a prompt and 15 minutes to write an original short story inspired by the prompt.
The purpose of this page is to provide students, teachers, and other interested writers with "random" prompts for your own short stories or impromptu competitions.
In the future I hope to automatically bring prompts to this page so that you will not need to click through a link, but, for now, the links will have to do. (Note to self: look into rss.)
The official Power of the Pen website can be found here.
Create a story using Merriam-Webster's word of the day, or use dictionary.com's word of the day.
Perhaps a random wikipedia page can inspire your inner writer.
Personally I like to pull a random line (just close your eyes and highlight) from the poem of the day. Just be sure to include proper citation if you use this method!
November is National Novel Writing Month. Check it out! Also notice that nanowrimo has great acronym-making potential (or acronymaking potential).
Also, this page needs a picture. Do you have an appropriate one that would fit well here? Please email it to me. I'll recognize your contribution when I post it.
