Its a trap! (Star Wars nostalgia)

Cutting Steel part 2 will have to wait. I stumbled upon (sought out) Admiral Ackbar on facebook and came upon the Admiral Ackbar Fan Club. At first glance the group is a lame conglomeration of people typing "It's a trap!" repeatedly. Then I found this magnificent and hilarious rant:

No, it really is a trap. Guess if your (sic) the guy with the Y-wing and you thought the empire didnt know you were coming, you would rethink not making a bigger deal about getting stuck with the Y-wing. Maybe you could have even talked your way into a B-wing? But no... the empire has no idea, so the Y-wing will be ok this time, right? Wrong! Even your funny wrap around your face Y-wing helmet wont help. Why did the Y-wings need special helmets anyway? Didnt they have regular helmets in the first movie? Makes you wonder doesnt it?

Well in conclusion it is a trap, and if Tie Fighters pasted you a few years ago, Tie Interceptors are going to hit you so hard your mom will feel it back on Corellia.

This slays me and it is so true. I remember playing X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter for pc back in the day. The Y-wings were such laser bait. They are too slow to dodge anything and they turn to slow to track moving targets.

I remember playing some of those y-wing levels. After the hyperspace jump I'd throw energy from lasers into my engines and accelerate until the mission critical targets (cargo containers, naturally) came into torpedo range. After launching all my torpedo's I would "jump" into my wingman's ship and do the same thing. I had to do this because the wingman AI was too stupid to focus on the mission critical target and usually died before firing any torpedoes. Come on guys! I feel like I'm carrying the whole rebellion on my back here.

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter was a good game. My favorite thing to do (usually in an x-wing) was to attack formations of four tie fighters. I could nail one with a missile before laser range, drop my speed down and blast another with lasers, boost my speed back up and ram the third one, and finally fire a flare as the fourth one passed. The flare would seek the Tie and send it into a tail spin while I turned my nose around to draw a bead on it. Four Tie's, just like that.

Good times, good times.
