We3
Homeward Bound meets Ghost in the Shell in the shocking graphic novel We3.
By far the most accurate review of this work that I have read is this one: "[A] startling, disturbing and perhaps enlightening series... a provocative tale." — Atlanta Journal Constitution
We3 is exactly that. It is also an affective mix of cuteness and horrifying violence, a story of survivalism, and an indictment of the impersonal near-sighted actions that characterize the U.S. government and military.
We3 never rises far above two been-done themes: humans only possess the illusion of control over nature (ala Jurassic Park) and researchers are often quite myopic regarding the consequences of their research (actually I'm tempted to cite Jurassic Park again, also there is Cat's Cradle). Nonetheless, it's a gripping story that I must recommend. The visuals alone are stunning. Hollywood has already bought the movie rights and this kind of paper to film translation ought to be a slam dunk. Don't fuck up Hollywood.
