Ants are pretty bad ass. Recently they've been getting press due to swarm's of Crazy Raspberry Running Ants in Texas. I'd be embarrassed if I made up that name for them. I didn't. Here are the articles: Ants swarm over Houston area, fouling electronics - Yahoo! News and A pest without a name - New York Times.
One line was particularly striking: "They pile up the dead, sometimes using them as a bridge to cross safely over surfaces treated with pesticide." That reminded me of a wired magazine article about griefers in which the following quote appears: "We choke the guns of our enemies with our corpses."
Indeed, attempting to kill ants, greifers, zombies, or terrorists is ultimately impossible unless the killer multiplies faster than the target. (In the case of terrorists, I think the strategy should be to slow and then reverse their multiplication rate by attacking root causes.) Interestingly, the Crazy Running ants do just that and are killing off Fire ants in Texas!
