Last Friday Elissa and I had an adventure north of Rochester on the shore of Lake Ontario. "Adventure", of course, is a euphemism for getting really really lost. Eventually we made it to Charlotte, which, in the Rochester tradition, is not pronounced the normal American way, but is instead pronounced Shar-lah-t with the emphasis on "lah". There we had Abbott's Custard. The chocolate almond is an almond lover's dream come true. Then we walked to the end of a pier before security kicked everybody out of the park at midnight.

My body thankfully let me sleep in the next morning despite my sun-facing window with its useless blinds. I woke up just early enough to eat a decent breakfast and digest it before my race, which went perfectly.

Saturday evening I drove downtown to see some free live music and possibly attend the also-amazingly-free indoor football game. The evening started off well with a parallel parking challenge that I mastered on only the second try. (I grew up in the country. Parallel parking isn't even a part of the driving test. Really.) Then I met up with members of the Rochester Singles Meetup group. One of the organizers confessed that very few members were in their twenties. I had hoped otherwise, but hadn't gotten my hopes too high.

It didn't really matter, because the band was awesome and I just felt better to be with a group, even if they were all older strangers. The band, Uncle Plum, rocked everything from Tom Petty to Harvey Danger to Rage Against the Machine. After them, the headliner, The Lou Gramm Band, went on. They were good, but played music that was less my style. I liked their classic rock covers, but not their original material.

I did end up meeting one guy in the singles group, Jake, who couldn't be much more than a couple years older than me. We hit it off partly because his company buys from Klein Steel, so we had steel in common right away. Also he is a mechanical engineer. Engineers are my kind of people.

Sunday I went for a long run that sapped me completely. I had no motivation to do anything creative for the entire day. Nonetheless, I did install firefox 3, which I highly recommend, and I installed two addons: firebug and web developer. Both these add-ons will be a great boon to my web development projects.
