Blinding Originality
The video game industry needs a wake up call and I know just the people to bring it to them: Squidi and Yahtzee.
Squidi gave himself the goal of composing 300 original game mechanics in as many days. He didn't reach his goal, but his site still contains a deluge of innovative ideas. Sure, few have been tested and many may not actually turn out to be fun, but there have got to be a few. This is how the best creativity works: Pour out daring stuff, weird combinations, stupid things that no one has tried because everybody knows that would never work, until somebody tries and it does.
Yahtzee is the bile-spewing game reviewer at Zero Punctuation. He is the crazy guy on the corner screaming at passers by and telling them the end is near. Any fool can criticize and many do, but this guy is no fool. It's obvious that his brain has somehow survived and even thrived despite a steady diet of horrible video games. (Maybe the hat has some mystical powers?) Also he is gut-splittingly funny.
